Mister Four Eyes

This simple blog is a memory capsule and inspiration board of items, thoughts, and photographs that inspire me. These include: Americana menswear (the stories behind the designers & their vision), food, lifestyle, photography, and nautical imagery.

I've disabled comments. Sorry. I began noticing that my entries became more tailored as a response to others, and not represent my actual thoughts or inspirations.

  • Steven Alan produces amazing shirts and clothing. We all know this. From the dandies on the show, Gossip Girl, to the rockers of the Strokes, people can’t seem to satiate their appetites for his apparel and with good reason..the fit and detail.

Last Fall, Steven produced this short film highlighting his SS10 collection, as did many other designers. I applaud and enjoy this innovation in collection showcasing for many reasons. But it boils down to this: I’m not a model.

I’m not 6’3 (5’11), I don’t have perfect proportions (I have broad shoulders from my swimming days), and I don’t weigh 120Ibs with cheekbones so sharp and defined that  women faint at first sight. None of those.

Films add a humanistic perspective that print and a normal show can’t highlight. Take this Steven Alan video as an example. The actors romp around in the grass, arm-wrestle on the carpet, lay back and read a book…bicycle down a rocky and dusty country road..and the culmination is a night-time outdoor dinner and bbq with friends. That’s how I wear my clothes.

That’s living life..well done, Mr. Alan.
