Frank Muytjens is bloody brilliant. He has taken a lackluster brand, synonymous with boxy and ill-fitting preppy clothing and transformed it. Focusing on construction and fit, melding classics with military inspiration with a dash of bravado, and collaborating with heritage brands including Alden, Barbour, RedWing, among others.
Menswear designers for smaller lines don’t face the restrictions Muytjens does. With every inspiration and design, the pressure of sales to appeal to a broad cross-section of men across the world must be taken into consideration. Instead of seeing the limitations of a large square box he’s placed in, he focuses on the space within the box that he can play with…-up/down, left/right/diagonal..the result is a resurrection of a once tired brand.
Secret Forts did a lively review with photos of the Fall Preview, check it out.
